What is link prefetching?Link prefetching is a browser mechanism, which utilizes browser idle time to download or prefetch documents that the user might visit in the near future.

A web page provides a set of prefetching hints to the browser, and after the browser is finished loading the page, it begins silently prefetching specified documents and stores them in its cache. When the user visits one of the prefetched documents, it can be served up quickly out of the browser\'s cache.Does prefetching work with HTTPS?Starting in Gecko 1.9.1 (Firefox 3.5), HTTPS content can be prefetched.

What are the prefetching hints? The browser looks for either an HTML link tag or an HTTP Link: header with a relation type of either next or prefetch. An example using the link tag follows:

How many emails do you get every day? How many of these emails are customer information requests vs. personal contacts?

When people contact you, autoresponders have always been a great way to let them know “hey, I got it”. Most of us only use this feature when we go out of town, know as the “vacation message” telling people – “hey, i’m not available – call this other person” right?

So, what if you setup a simple email autoresponder that serves two purposes:

1) Thank that person for their email and let them know how important it is that they have contacted you.

2) Give them the opportunity to visit a link, faq, recent blog posts, social sites or even an email signup.

If you get 100 emails per day (That’s my personal average) about half are valid.

That’s 18,250 outbound email marketing autoresponder opportunities per year

Google bans are real and they can be costly. If you do not participate in any black market link building or other shady activity – for the most part – your good.

Keep a close eye on your content and title tags. The more direct and simple – the better. Stuffing is one thing, diluting the effort is another.

Choose a single target per page and sprinkle some secondary related phrases.

Leave out meta tags completely to start. Focus on body content and page title – do not get overwhelmed with hidden tags.

Let the indexing work. Google loves you unconditionally, really, until you get agressive and do something stupid.

Know what you are indexing for – take a look at our other post on using the Google Keyword Tool for research.

How do I know if I am banned?

Pretty simple really, if you search Google for your direct domain – www.whatever.com and you do not display, and you’ve been around a bit. You are probably banned from the indexing.

If you have a website, do your own keyword research for goodness sakes. They tools are right there. There is software, tools, and techniques to determine what phrases you should go after when you build. Here is a simple 5 step process

Go to the Google External Keyword Tool here (we are going to open it in a new window so you can keep reading)

Enter a phrase in the box – something you think relates to your business (one of ours is “birmingham web design”)

Press “Get Keyword Ideas”

This shows you a couple of things: A) Do people actually search for it B) Additional phrases that relate to it.

Now, go to Google, enter the same phrase in the search box. Search. Are you on page 1, somewhere?

If you answered “YES” – keep picking phrases until you find something else you want to rank for. Do not stop. You stop, you die.

If you answered “NO” – go look at the title of your website. Put that exact phrase in your website title if it is not already there. Then get other websites to link to you using that phrase in the link.

The theory is easy. The work is hard.

Google Keyword Tool
Webmaster Favorite – Enter website name or keywords for list of related searches. Statistics show search count and advertiser competition. For help see Keyword Tool Tips.
Chelsea Park Elementary school will be kicking off its annual spring fun run fundraiser on April 1st with what promises to be a memorable pep rally. With help from local businesses and some special guests, CPES hopes to excite the students for the inaugural running of “The BUZZ at Chelsea Park,” to be held on April 14th, 2010.

This is a school-wide event in which each student will participate by running as many laps as possible around a 1/10th mile track within a set amount of time. Each student has the responsibility of finding sponsors willing to pledge a dollar amount per lap run. “The Buzz at Chelsea Park” is a unique opportunity for the school to raise funds that will be used for purchasing new technology. Principal of Chelsea Park, Dr. Jeannette Campisi-Snider believes the fun run also accomplishes several other key goals. It is a chance for the students to be active and healthy, learn school spirit and participation, and a character education message will be presented along with the fun run activities.

This year’s theme is “REACH Higher” which stands for Responsibility, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Character, and Honesty.

Chelsea Park Elementary School is venturing into uncharted territory as the PTO and facultytake on the task of coordinating the annual Fun Run fundraiser internally. The economic downturn has caused many of us to rethink how we spend our money, with the school system being no exception. Rather than contracting an outside party as in the past, this year CPES will rely on PTO, parents and faculty toorganize and plan every aspect of the event. This means that 100% of the funds raised will remain at the school! There are big incentives for both the students and their families who raise the most funds.

Most businesses have a good idea of how to get a physical product to market. If you are a dealer, you want to be the first one in your area to have that product. You want everyone to know that you have it and it is for sale. In the new digital age, most companies are unable to organize their technology resources to deliver a consistant, timed message to market. We try to make them understand that they are the experts of their industry. Users searching for content on the internet are looking for the reliable source, many times tied to a leader in the industry.

Getting your content to market = getting your product to market

There are many ways to continually create product buzz on the internet. The best way is to publish the best content. Content is the same as your physical service. If you offer good service, people tell other people about it. If you offer good content, the do the same. This occurs on a larger and more annonymous scale (that is a good thing.)

Companies take stabs at creating uniformity and consistancy in their internet marketing efforts. It’s hard to understand how much effort it takes to harness the power and saturation of social media and blend it with the traditional message until you do it. It is easy to not only lose control of the effort, but very difficult to gauge the effectiveness of the initiative.

A few ideas for getting the content out and using the momentum

Choose your initiative: We like to revolve the initiative around the phrases. The target of the initiative means nothing if searchers are not loooking for it.

Phrase research: Perform careful analysis of basic phrase factors: what is the organic competition like, how many searches per month, also the paid competition.

Choose the translator: What is the best angle to press the initiative? Is it blog tied to social, bookmarking, WIKI, FAQ, email, technical, press release, multimedia etc.

Gauge the effort: Have your landing page or micro site strategy in place. This may require multiple splits for demographics, male, female age groups -but well worth it. Use the tools you are comfortable with to establish and track the goals within the initiative – sales, forms, calls, leads and on and on.

You have really got to make some decisions when your buying technology now. It’s not about the single unit: What computer do I buy? It’s about netbooks with integrated wireless, external wireless. Do you wait on the iPad? Do you get the 3G version or just the wireless version? What about iPhone vs. Blackberry or even the Droid. Technology and the available of this technology has forced many of you to make decisions that you are only able to make because you are being educated by the sales(person) at that particular store.

Verizon and AT&T swear that their data coverage is faster and better:

Sprint is killing both of you where we are. I have the fortunate, but also unfortunate opportunity to reside in a place which stares through the technological CRT windows 10 years into the future while the rest of the world, and country embraces and moves forward with technology: Birmingham, Alabama. CahabaWeb has used Sprint mobile broadband access for 33 months. Yes, that is almost 3 years. We have never had a single problem with Sprint data service. This deserves giant letters:

I have never had a single problem, with Sprint data services in 33 months of use.

Did you read that? Amazing huh?

The Super Flexible Mobile Concept

I hate the thought of companies “giving” users netbooks and embedding the only data connection into that hardware. So limiting.

A) Sprint mobile broadband hotspot: Size of a credit card, keep it in your pocket and connect all of your mobile internet devices to it. iPad touch, netbook, notebook, desktop etc etc. Use it for traveling internet on EVERYTHING. Free device – $60 per month.

B) Flip phone: Honestly, I am to the point that I can’t stand the fact that my data, app and surfing usage is interrupted by a PHONE CALL! OMG! You just jammed my Pandora stream to tell me that?!?!?! Cheap, low cost throw-away flip phone. Phones are dead. Let’s split them from the data device already. We use txt to communicate for business much of the time. Txt is still majorly in play on a small device.

C) iPod touch. This gives you ALL of the usage and flexibility of the iPhone without the CONTRACT, 2 years of your life, replacement cost if damaged, and AT&T’s lousy data service. If you are rolling on the Sprint hotspot, your iPod touch be even cooler than the iPhone – plus it will never ring…UNLESS – you use Skype and bluetooth for your calls over the sprint mobile broadband, but that is a completely different story.

D) ASUS Netbook: Normally, I would not recommend netbook or even Windows. But, if you are going iPod touch – Umbuntu will not like you. Asus and a couple of other brands of notebooks have a quickboot linux OS that will let you run skype etc without a full boot desktop boot.

E) MacBook: 9 out of 10 high school and college students will tell you that they want/need a MAC. 10 out of 10 probably can’t tell you why, from a performance perspective and pricing perspective that it is what they need. No clue – it reflects the power of trend and marketing. Huge props on functionality, don’t get me wrong. I have seen small hardware on MAC back in the OS9 days run circles around the same hardware type on Windows. MAC is great. Unfortunately, still 99 out of 100 real world business people that we deal with on a daily basis use……Windows. Your call on the notebook.

The device is not the breakthrough – The service and price structure is.

OK, the device is cool right? looks cool, probably works cool. The real breakthrough here is the service and price. We are talking 2 models, 16Gb with WIFI for $499 / The most expensive being the 32GB with 3G on AT&T which is $829ish.

On the 3G access – Normally, we are used to paying $60 per month for data – and a 2 year contract. That’s not what we are talking about here. $15 a month for 250mb – which is great – NO CONTRACT or unlimited for $30. Did I say no contract? Yes, I believe I just did. So, they are saying essentially:

“People can buy this “thing” for a pretty darn good price and get no contract internet for $15 a month”

OK, this is the breakthrough. Did not see that coming, I must admit.

Montgomery, Alabama – January 15, 2010 – Carriage Hills Animal Hospital and Pet Resort on 3200 Eastern Bypass announce

the opening of their dog daycare facility, The Barking Zone.

Quote from owner of the new facility: “Thanks for all your help,” says Dr. Salter.” The staff launched a “The Barking Zone”

franchise with the assistance of Rick Clark, who owns and operates The Barking Zone Dog Daycare flagship in Birmingham, Alabama l

ocated at Caldwell Mill Animal Clinic.

Quote from Clark, “In these busy times, people are looking for a safe and convenient way to provide their pets with the

exercise and socialization they need while they’re away from home.”

Clark explained that housing the daycare facility in an established veterinary office provides extra convenience for pet owners

who would already be dropping their dogs off for grooming or boarding or even routine veterinary appointments. A veterinary

clinics goal is to keep that client walking through the door and The Barking Zone does just that!

The Barking Zone staff members give all day play attention to each canine guest. One dog might want an endless game of ball playing.

Another might just want to hang out with his new doggie friends and maybe get a quick scratch behind the ears. The play yard

provides an expansive area for high energy play as well as shaded nooks for rest and relaxation. There’s something there for everyone.

“We do whatever we can to keep the dogs happy in a fun and safe environment,” says Clark. With veterinarians on site we know

the dogs are in good hands.

“We play all day and our goal is sending home tired dogs.” You can’t help noticing that Clark is tired, too.

Clark explains The Barking Zone is exclusive to Veterinary clinics and that a veterinary clinic can open a “The Barking Zone”

franchise for a very modest fee. We take care of the the whole daycare business and not disrupt their veterinary pratice as it

stands today. We know how to do that, and have their daycare open in a very short time. This is a service they need to offer to

their clients. A quote from Dr. Christenberry at Caldwell Mill Animal Clinic “The Barking Zone creates happy memories for the patient

and the client instead of the uncomfortable one”
