The device is not the breakthrough – The service and price structure is.
OK, the device is cool right? looks cool, probably works cool. The real breakthrough here is the service and price. We are talking 2 models, 16Gb with WIFI for $499 / The most expensive being the 32GB with 3G on AT&T which is $829ish.
On the 3G access – Normally, we are used to paying $60 per month for data – and a 2 year contract. That’s not what we are talking about here. $15 a month for 250mb – which is great – NO CONTRACT or unlimited for $30. Did I say no contract? Yes, I believe I just did. So, they are saying essentially:
“People can buy this “thing” for a pretty darn good price and get no contract internet for $15 a month”
OK, this is the breakthrough. Did not see that coming, I must admit.
